SPARC 版だと、Solaris インストーラはすぐに立ち上がるのですが、 Intel 版の場合には少し準備が必要です(画面に出てくる指示に従います)。 次のような手順になります(Solaris のバージョンによって違いがあります)。
The Solaris(TM) (Intel Platform Edition) Device Configuration Assistant scans to identify sysytem hardware, lists idnetified devices, and can boot the Solaris software from a specified device. This program must be used to install the Solaris operating environment, add a driver, or change the hardware on the system. > To perform a full scan to identify all system hardware, choose Continue. > To diagnose possible full scan failures, choose Specific Scan. > To add new or updated device drivers, choose Add Driver. About navigation - The mouse cannot be used. - If the keyboard does not have function keys or they do not respond, press ESC. この時点で、Disk, CD, Net の3つの候補が出てきますが、 CD からインストールしたいので、CD を選びます。
Disk, CD の2つしか出ていないときは、ネットワークカードの認識がうまくいっ ていないということなので、とりあえずはインストールを続行し、 ネットワークカードの設定は後で行なうことにします。

kdmconfig has attempted to identify the devices necessary for the window system. If the configuration is incorrect or incomplete you will not be able to use the window system. Press F2 to view and edit the current configuration. Press F4 to bypass viewing and editing. If you choose this option, you can subsequently review and edit the window system configuraiton by rebooting the system or running kdmconfig from the command line. Note: If you are installing Solaris you do not have to configure the window system at this time. Choosing this option will cause the installation to run in non-window-system mode. You can test the current window system configuration now by pressing F2. If the configuration is correct, you will see the sample image, be able to move the pointer, and click on a button. If you see a bland or improper screen, press any key. If kdmconfig does not regain control within a minute, you will have to reboot your system. Press F4 to bypass the test. Specify Yes if the system is connected to the netword by one of the Solaris or vendor network/communication Ethernet cards that are supported on the Solaris CD. See your hardware documenttaion for the current list of supported cards. Specify No if the system is connected to network/communication card that is no supported on the Solaris CD, and follow the instructions listed under Help. Networked:
On this screen you must specify whether or not this system should use DHCP for network interface configuration. Choose Yes if DHCP is to be used, or No if the interfaces are to be configured manually. WARNING: Because this machine booted from the network, DHCP support will not be enabled, if selected, until after the system reboots. Use DHCP:
On this screen you must enter a host name, which identifies this system on the network. The name must be unique within the domain in which it resides; creating a duplicate host name will cause problems on the network after you install Solaris. Ahost name must be at least two characters; it can contain letters, digits, and minus signs(-). Host name:
On this screen you must enter the Inrernet Protocol(IP) address for this system. It must be unique and follow your site's address convenions, or a system/network failure could result. IP addresses contain four sets of numbers separated by periods(for example 129.200.9.1). IP address:
On this screen you maust spcify whether this system is part of a subnet. If you specify incorrectly, the system sill have problems communicating on the network after you reboot. System part of Subnet:
On this screen you must specify the netmask of your subnet. A default netmask is shown; do not accept the default unless you are sure it is correct for your subnet. A netmask must contain four sets of number separated by periods(for example 255.255.255.0). Netmask:
On this screen you should specify whether or not IPv6, the next generation Internet Protocol, will be enabled on this machine. Enabling IPv6 will have no effect if this machine is not on a network that provides IPv6 service. IPv4 service will not be affected if IPv6 is enabled. Enable IPv6:

On this screen you must provide name service information. Select the name service tha will be used by this system, or None if your system will either not use a name service at all, or if it will use a name service not listed here. Name service:

This option allows you to preserve any existing file system. Back up any modifications made to the poevious version of Solaris software before starting the Initial option. Select the geographic regions for which support should be installed.
Select the Solaris software to install on the system.
